A photographer is someone who takes pictures using a camera for a business, publication or client. Photographers work in a wide array of industries that include real estate, architecture, media companies and more. Some photographers work on a contract basis, that sell pictures to any buyer. Other photographers run studios, taking portrait-style pictures of pets, infants, political figures, graduating students or soon-to-be married couples.
Photography jobs are expected to grow just as fast as all jobs in the United States, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). More than half of the 129,000 photographers working in the United States are freelancers, according to the BLS.
