Despite the economic downturn, Washington D.C. is attracting recent college grads due to the chances of landing a job. 
The D.C. area is adding jobs in the area of health care and in the federal sector. The number of jobs declining in the area are construction and retail which tend not to be the college graduate type of jobs.
Overall, nationwide unemployment is about 9 percent. In the D.C. area, it’s about 6 percent.
