Pros:

• The Safeway store I worked in offered a flexible work schedule while I was in school. The hourly pay is good for someone in college. The job opportunities for job advancement seem good.
• The hourly pay and vacation time is good and I was able to make my own flexible work schedule.
• This is the best student job ever! There were opportunities for promotion and flexible scheduling. Management took notice of employees’ skills and contributions to the company.
• There was a good work/life balance and flexible work schedules.
• Safeway is a stable grocery store company that rarely lays off their employees. The work life balance is acceptable and there is a good support structure for those employees that want to move around within the organization.

Cons:

• The corporate culture at my store didn’t seem to promote advancement within the company.
• There is an incredible amount of micro-management in my grocery store. It was to the point where you’re unable to do your hourly job effectively!
• I had to pay $50 in union dues a month, taken from my minimum wage paycheck.
• At the grocery store I worked in, our manager was completely inept; she had no idea how to do her job correctly, so we were out of inventory all of the time and we were often understaffed.
