How to keep your resume out of the trash
Did you know that most employers won’t even look at your job application if there is just one typo? Or that making a follow-up call can increase your chances of getting the job you want?
It may be surprising, but the odds of getting a new job increase when you do a few simple things.
- Double-check. Then triple-check. Then have your mom check.
Typos can send your job application or resume straight into the trash. Make sure to look over your application carefully – then have a friend or family member look it over as well.
- Tell employers about yourself.
We have employers tell us over and over again that they want to see the “Tell Us About Yourself” portion of the SnagAJob.com application filled out. They want to know more about you and what kind of worker you would be, so take the time to fill out this part. Think of it as a mini cover letter. Leaving this blank could get you thrown out of the running for the hourly job you want.
There are a lot of job seeker insider tips you should know about before you start sending out applications. Keep up with the Career Coach where he writes career advice on HourlyCareers.com.
